Nature Reserve
The access to the Helderberg Nature Reserve goes via the Lourensford Road, which turns left off the Main Road in Somerset West. This unknown conservation area is unlike any other in the Cape - home to a great variety of species belonging to the Fynbos vegetation. Here one even finds the big King Proteas. The hiking trails are well signposted. There is a choice between short half-hour walks and longer hikes to the Disa Gorge. Wine Estate
The Vergelegen ls also situated on Lourensford Road. The historical wine estate today belongs to Anglo American Farms Ltd. For a small fee, one can visit the historical part, the old manor house with the famous camphor trees, the old library and the parks and rose gardens. The Lady Phillips Restaurant is open from 10 am to 4 pm.. Picnic packets available. At the Wine Tasting Centre one can savour the well-renowned Vergelegen Wines, e.g. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
