He is a singer and composer, plays the piano and the saxophone. The grandseigneur of South African jazz was born in 1934 in Cape Town. He founded the Dollar Brand Trio in 1962. He was discovered by Duke Ellington in 1964 during a tour of Zurich who took him to America where his international carrier started. In1990, he returned to South Africa. Ibrahim is a deeply spiritual musician who adds a whole new dimension to jazz. Publication of records and CD's, grand compositions, some for orchestra, and film music. Today he runs a music academy for the promotion of young South African talent.
Sibongile Khumalo The most famous opera singer in South Africa. Grew up in Soweto and started her musical career at the age of eight under the guidance of her father Khabi Mngoma, a professor of music. The dynamic soprano is multi-talented with a huge repertoire sweeping from classic opera and musical, jazz and blues to traditional African music. Sibongile has published numerous CD's and sings on all the major stages of the world as well as at the Christmas Fun at the V&A Waterfront.

The Cape Town City Ballet is a must for the lovers of ballet. It takes place in the bigger theatres of Cape Town (Artscape, Baxter, City Hall) and has an international standard.

In the summer months (December to March) the open-air concerts in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden are very popular with the Capetonians. They are held on sundays, usually starting at 5:30 pm. Performed here, is a wide range of music; from Township Jazz, rock, Afro-Pop, big band and chorals to classics with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. Information under Tel 021-7998783 or 7998620.
