 Another African activity which is ideally suited for synergetic team-building, is percussion in a facilitated drumming circle. In the beginning of a session, a team of foredrummers gives the rhythm, which is first repeated by the group in unison. As it splits into more complicated rhythms, the contributions of the single players gain importance. They have to closely listen to each other to create harmony. Sensitivities and hierarchic differences melt away. Listening to the hypnotic beat of the drums relaxes the participants and tunes them towards co-operation and problem-solving. Eventually you will find the most dignified delegates dancing around, immerged in a unified group and happy about a newly acquired skill.  Besides the CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Centre), Cape Town contains more than 134 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) venues, which can each take care of up to 300 delegates. The most famous being the Mount Nelson Hotel with its traditional elegance and exquisite service, the wine estate and convention village, Spier with its rural charm and equally excellent service. On the subject of team-building, there are some contributions inspired by Africa: A new concept in team-building, which plays with themes concerning African nature and wildlife for strengthening the group coherence. In a workshop on a game farm, the participants learn through analogies of animal behaviour in the bush, the meaning of teamwork as opposed to the endeavours of the isolated individual. One doesn't need to deduce a whole sinister philosophy, the days in the bush, however, are inspiring and highly conducive to the team spirit. |
