McGregor is a beautiful little village established in the 19th century. The many thatch-roofed 'Cape cottages' between fruit and vegetable gardens, are very well preserved and maintained. The 'Aesthetics Committee' of the village make sure that the dainty characters of the cottages are well preserved. Numerous artists, arts-and-crafts people, musicians, esoterics, alternative healers and ecologically and spiritually conscious people have chosen McGregor as their home and contribute to the special atmosphere of this remote place.
Once a year, at the beginning of May, the "McGregor Unbelievably Festive Weekend" is celebrated. Then the surrounding vintners present their new wines in the hotels and guest houses of McGregor. The spirits are high and there is dancing and singing in the street, accompanied by the Tassle Alley Washboard Creepers music group.
