Victoria Falls

A visit to the Victoria waterfalls in Zimbabwe suggests itself, if one is in the Caprivi. From Katima Mulilo, the trip goes first to the Botswana border at Ngoma Bridge (75 km) and from there another 80 km to the border of Zimbabwe at Kasane, until one reaches Victoria Falls after an additional 90 kilometres drive. The drive - border crossing included - is easy. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is not required.

Victoria Falls has a perfect tourist infrastructure and offers a great number of hotels and lodges in all price ranges plus a couple of camping grounds.See the Victoria Falls accommodation page for details.

For the drive back one can take the road through the Chobe National Park in Botswana which, however, does require a 4WD. Passing Maun and Ghanzi, the road leads to the Namibian border at Buitepos. Via Gobabis it goes back to Windhoek. Who wants to get to South Africa, rather takes the comfortable tar road through Zimbabwe via Bulawayo to cross the border at Messina.

Accommodation at Popa Falls

The Popa Waterfalls are 210 kms east of Rundu at the Kavango river. One can't really see any waterfalls here, but instead a number of rapids surrounded by beautiful nature. The restcamp offers itself as a stop-over or a base for exploring the Mahango Game Park. The camp comprises – beside the camping ground – simple thatched huts with two rooms and four beds each, but without cooking facilities. Instead, there is a fireplace in front of each hut. Bedding and towels are provided. The camp has a kiosk, but no petrol station. One can fill the tank only in Bagani Bridge or in Mukwe, 17 kms west.
