At Vioolsdrift on the Orange River the National Road N7 crosses the border to Namibia (Noordoewer) and becomes the B1. There is not much traffic on this pleasant road that leads through sparsely populated desert regions and rugged mountains terrain of dramatic beauty. 31 km before Grönau, you will reach the C10 turn-off to the spectacular Fish River Canyon and to the thermal hot springs of Ai-Ais.
In Keetmanshoop you should visit the famous Quivertree Forest on the farm Gariganus, some 20 kilometres northeast of the town.
The C16 leads via Aroab to the South African border post of Rietfontein and further to Twee Rivieren in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari.
The B4 turn-off in Keetmanshoop leads to Lüderitz, the magic fishing village on the edge of the Namib desert with the ghost town of Kolmanskop. On the way you should see the legendary wild horses at Aus. The C13 from Aus takes you to the Namib Naukluft Park and the Sossusvlei. This road is untarred and not always in good condition. Easier is the access via Mariental and Maltahöhe.
