A visit to the Augrabies Falls National Park with its spectacular gorges and falls is worth your while. Accommodation in chalets is available in the park. Upington, green oasis at the Orange, offers good service and accommodation and is a good base vor a visit of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari (the former Kalahari Gemsbok N.P.).
The access road to Twee Rivieren, the southern restcamp of the park, is sandy from Askham onwards, yet manageable in a normal car. This applies to the entire park, although there can be problems after heavy rainfalls. Access to the park is also possible via Kuruman on the R31 (sand road). Accommodation is excellent in Twee Rivieren, but also in the northern restcamps Mata Mata and Nossob. For the Botswana part of the park a separate permit is required.
There is no access from the park to Namibia. Shortest connections to Namibia: N10 via Karasburg (tarred) or R31 via Askham and Rietfontein (gravel).
