Travel Route:
Rundu -
Caprivi Strip -
Victoria Falls
Only a few years ago, the drive through the Caprivi Strip was tedious and - particularly during the rainy season - unsafe. Today, the trip on the fully tarred Trans-Caprivi-Highway from Rundu to Katima Mulilo, capital of the Caprivi, is easy. Accommodation along this stretch is scarce, however, the first option coming up at Popa Falls, where simple huts are available and a camping ground.
The road to Shakawe in Botswana is sandy in places and can make for difficult driving, just like the D3511, which runs along the Linyanti Swamps. Especially in the rainy season, one should prefer to travel in a 4x4.
The Chobe National Park is excellent for game viewing and can be accessed via Kasane. Roads within the park and further to Savuti and Maun are sandy and suitable for 4x4 vehicles only. (More information: Pretoria - Botswana - Windhoek)
