Worthwhile are trips to the Winelands around Stellenbosch and - particularly during the whale season from August to December - to the Overberg coast at Hermanus, Cape Agulhas and Arniston.
In Knysna, centre of the Garden Route, one can take a trip on the Outeniqua Tjoo-Tjoe steam train along the Indian Ocean coast up to George. From George, a drive to Oudtshoorn, the centre of South African ostrich breeding, is recommended. Excellent accommodation can be found in the Schoemanshoek valley on the R328, the road to the Cango Caves. Via the dramatic Swartberg Pass road you will reach the nostalgic Karoo village of Prince Albert.
Who intends going back to Cape Town, should travel the relaxing and scenic R62 through Montagu and Robertson.
