A journey in autumn can include a visit to a great number of scenicattractions and game parks. For an extended swimming holiday, however, this is not the best time. It is important to keep in mind the Easter school holidays, which usually fall in April. At least for that period, one should make accommodation bookings well in advance. This itinerary starts in Cape Town, and goes over the Cedarberg Mountains to Port Nolloth. From here an excursion to the Richtersveld National Park is worthwhile, if one has a 4WD. The next highlight of the program is a visit to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The climatic conditions are very favourable by now, and game drives are bound to be successful. The subsequent course of the route leads through the Kalahari, over Kimberley, through the Free State into the Natal Drakensberg. It comes to the coast north of Durban, where one can still go for a swim. After a visit to the game parks of Natal, one can see the Panorama Route and the Kruger National Park, although in May one still has to count on sultry weather and dense vegetation. Leaving the Kruger Park towards the north, the journey turns back via Pretoria to end in Johannesburg.
