Sossusvlei

You can choose between a couple of options to get to the Namib Naukluft Park and to the Sossusvlei dunes area. From Windhoek it is best to travel the B1 to Rehoboth and turn right into the C24 direction Solitaire via Spreetshoogte Pass. Behind the pass turn left and travel the C14 up to the turnoff to Sesriem.
Sesriem lies some 65 kilometres (1 hour) from Sossusvlei. The last 4 kilometres to the vlei has extremely soft sand and can be managed only in a 4x4 or on foot. One must have returned to Sesriem by sunset.

Sesriem Restcamp
There is a very beautiful state-run restcamp in Sesriem. The campsites are completely shaded by huge camelthorn trees. The camping fee is 130 N$ per night for a maximum of 8 persons. Altogether there are only 18 campsites. Sesriem has a petrol station and a kiosk. It is wise to do the grocery shopping in Windhoek already.
