Border Post to Namibia
Vioolsdrift lies 677 km north of Cape Town on the N7. The border post in Vioolsdrif is open 24 hours a day throughout the year. At the start of South African school holidays one has to expect kilometre long queues. At all other times the procedure is smooth and fast. Travellers in a rented car have to produce - besides their passports - a letter from the car rental company explicitly permitting the crossing of the border. And Namibia charges a road toll.
Orange River
The Orange River is wonderful for canoeing. The river is relatively tame and the landscape dramatically beautiful. Canoes can, for example, be hired from Aquacade. And Felix Unite offers canoeing tours.
