Mkhuze Game Reserve

Access  There is only one entrance to the park, accessible past the small town of Mkhuze, 25 km from the park entrance. After 15 km on the gravel road through the Lebombo Mountains turn left. The sign-post is not legible. The next 10 kilometres are relatively rough, usually in bad condition, but a 4x4 is not required.Opening Hours The Emshopi Entrance Gate is open in summer (October to March) from 5 am to 7 pm, in winter (April to September) between 6 am and 6 pm. Mantuma Rest Camp  The restcamp lies 10 km from the gate in the park's northern part. 10 safari tent units, with 2 or 4 beds, own toilet/shower and small kitchen. There are also two 6-bed cottages, four 2-bed chalets, five 4-bed chalets, all fully equipped for self-catering and beautifully positioned. For the price-conscious there is a choice of five basic 2-bed huts (communal toilets and kitchen). The camp has a little grocery store for the bare necessities and a restaurant.Camping The campground in the Mkhuze Park lies near the Emshopi entrance. It has 52 big, shady sites. It also has a little shop selling firewood and some basic food items. Hunting  In the south of the park a 4500 hectare part is fenced and reserved for hunting. The Mkhuze Controlled Hunting Area (CHA) allows professional hunting under strictly controlled conditions and constant surveillance by KZN wildlife rangers. The park offers certain "hunting packages". It can be hunted for white rhino (bulls only), zebra, nyala and impala antelopes, both genders, and warthogs. The Umkhumbi Tented Bush Lodge is the accommodation available to hunters. Interested people must register early with KZN Wildlife. |
