The coast north of the metropolitan area of Durban - between Ballito and the Tugela River mouth - is called "North Coast". Because of the many dolphins, frequently frollicking off this part of the shore in pursuit of the sardine shoals, this coast is also called "Dolphin Coast"
KwaDukuza (Stanger) - some 10 kilometres from the coast - is the biggest town of the area. KwaDukuza has a long history. Here the king of the Zulus, Shaka, built his royal kraal in the year 1827. One year later, he was murdered by his half-brother Dingane. At his grave in King Shaka Street a monument and a museum were erected in honour of the national hero of the Zulu people.
