Access The access from the south to Kosi Bay goes via the R22 past Pelindaba and KwaNganase. From here one has to have a four-wheel drive with good ground clearance for the last 13 km stretch of soft sand and deep tracks. And everywhere in the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve a 4x4 is also required. To get from the Madlangwe Restcamp to Kosi Mouth or to the beaches on the Indian Ocean takes almost an hour. Madlangwe Restcamp The restcamp lies on the western banks of Lake Nhlange, only offering 3 very basic cottages for 2 to 6 persons, each with open kitchen and shower/bath. Also available are 15 shady camp sites, each of them with a coldwater tap and a electricity socket. The park office lies next to the gate, which is open from 6 am to 6 pm, but the office is only open from 7 am to 4 pm. There is no grocery store in the park. Tel: (035) 5920234; Fax: (035) 5929512. | Angling Anglers must be in possession of a licence. Motor boats are - strangely enough - allowed. When fishing, beware of crocodiles and hippos.  HikesThe park office offers a 4-day hike through the nature reserve under the guidance of a ranger. The route encompasses the beach, where in season the huge marine turtles can be watched as they lay their eggs. The hike presents many chances to take a swim, go snorkeling or fishing. Overnight stays in plain thatched huts. The 4-day hike costs 3500 Rand per group with a maximum of 10 persons. One can additionally book porters. Their salary is R 45 per day and they must be catered for by the group. All hikes to be booked in advance at the park office or through Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. |
