 AccessThe park lies some 70 kilometres north-east of Vryheid and has only one entrance to be accessed on the R69. Turn off behind Louwsburg. Keep to your right in this village. Another 6 kilometres through beautiful landscape. Opening Hours The entrance gate is open in summer (October to March) from 5 am to 7 pm, in winter (April to September) from 6 am to 6 pm.  Ntshondwe RestcampThe main camp lies 8 km from the gate in the southern part of the park (tarred road). It comprises 39 thatched chalets, some with kitchen for self-catering. The lodge building is a visitors' centre, a little shop and a restaurant with a stunning wooden verandah deck and a swimming pool. Further accommodation in the Mhlangeni Bushcamp, the Mbizo Bushcamp and the Thalu Bushcamp, all in beautiful positions in the middle of nature. Tel: (034) 9832540, Fax: (034) 9832566.  Doornkraal Camp SiteThis exclusive shady campground lies at the Mbizo river and provides camping facilities for 20 persons. Caravans are not admitted. The area is not fenced. Watch out for wild animals! Hikes and Safaris There are a couple of well marked hiking trails, above the Ntshondwe Camp. At night sometimes elephants and rhinos enter the camp. Visitors should be vigilant and abstain from going on nightly walks by themselves. The park management, however, also offers guided hikes and safari drives at night in an open safari vehicle. |
