For many the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal is the "Golf Coast". Nowhere else in South Africa can you play so many scenic golf courses as on this 170 kilometre coastal stretch south of Durban.
All in all, there are 9 courses – Umkomaas, Scottburgh, Umdoni, Selborne, Port Shepstone, Margate, Southbroom, San Lameer and Port Edward. Not in KwaZulu-Natal, but still part of this string is the Wild Coast Sun Golf Course, situated just south of Port Edward. All have 18 holes and are situated close to or directly at the Indian Ocean. The fairways are lined by lush subtropical vegetation. Some courses have their own access to the beach.
Compared to most courses in the Western Cape, the green fees at the South Coast are relatively moderate. And the golf estate accommodation is generally – despite the most luxurious appointments – not very expensive. The same applies to restaurants, country clubs and other services. Foreign guests are very welcome on all the courses. For beginners there are driving ranges and golf instructors available.
All golf courses on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal lie within easy reach of each other and of the International Airport of Durban.
