Coming from the north, turn off the N3 to Estcourt. At the crossing Conner and Lorne Streets take the Ntabamhlope Road and follow the sign-posts to Giants Castle. Coming from the south, take the Mooi River turn-off from the N3, drive through the town and follow the sign-posts for 64 km to get to the reserve. Open in summer (October to March) from 5 am to 7 pm. In Winter (April to September) from 6 am to 6 pm. The reception is open mondays to saturdays from 8 am to 6 pm and sundays from 8 am to 4 pm. The distance from the gate to the camp is 7 km (20 minutes' drive). Camp Tel: (036) 3533718; Fax: (036) 3533775. The park has no campground, but 43 chalets with 2 to 6 beds, lounge, kitchen and bath, all in beautiful positions and equipped with satellite TV. The honeymoon unit commands wonderful views.The camp comprises a small grocery store and curio shop. If you don't want to prepare your meals yourself, visit the stylish Izimbali Restaurant. It also has a bar. The park has no other roads besides the access to the camp. One can explore it on foot only. There are ample options for day walks from 2 to 10 hours. One shouldn't miss the Main Caves hike. It takes about 2 hours and leads to the Main Caves Bushman Museum, an open-air museum, a rocky ledge in front of a cave entrance. Bushmen (San) used to live here. Their rock paintings are amazingly well preserved. To visit the museum costs a little entrance fee.Very nice hikes are also the River Walk (4,5 km, 2 hours), the Bergview Walk (5 km, 2 hours), the Grysbuck Bush Walk (8 km, 3,5 hours), the Giant's Hut Trail (19 km, 7,5 hours) or the Langalibalele Pass (27 km, 8 hours). Weather Warning for Hikers: The weather can change very suddenly in the Drakensberg. In summer, thunderstorms occur in the afternoons. Hikers should be well equipped and definitely put their names down in the Mountain Rescue Register prior to leaving. |

![]() The park offers an extraordinary possibility to observe birds in its "Vultures' Restaurant", where daily the huge Bearded Vultures, Cape Vultures and other predator birds are being fed. The hide lies 5 km off the camp. Every day in the morning at around 7 a maximum of six visitors is taken in a 4x4 to the Lammergeyer Hide. Return on foot. The fee is about 180 Rand per person. Only from May to September.
