Still quite new is Durban's attraction uShaka Marine World, situated at the southern end of the Golden Mile. Centrepiece of this fun park is the Sea World Aquarium. Huge, almost 500 metre long fish tanks were integrated into the replica of a sunken cargo steamer from 1920. They impressively display the diversity of life in the ocean off South Africa's eastern shores. Naturally the sharks are an important focus: Nowhere else in the southern hemisphere can one find a more comprehensive collection of these ocean predators. And there is a Dolphin Stadium, with 1200 seats one of the biggest in the world, a Penguin Stadium and a huge Seal Pool. Also the renowned Oceanographic Research Institute has its head office in uShaka Marine World.
Sea World offers various performances several times a day, for example dolphin and seal training, penguin feeding, shark feeding and coral demonstrations.
uShaka Wet 'n Wild is the place for all who love to have fun in the water. Here are waterslides of gigantic dimensions and many pools. In the snorkeling lagoon one can have a swim in the company of various ocean dwellers.
Many activities are offered at uShaka Beach, in front of uShaka Marine World, like windsurfing, kayaking, volley ball, dragon surfing, jet-ski boats and much more. And on the uShaka Village Walk one can have a snack or a meal. Besides the spectacular Shark Restaurant there are some fast food outlets and also boutiques, jewellery and curio shops.
