Upington
Northern Cape Province

Upington has an airport approx. 8 km north of the town centre. The airport boasts the longest runway in Africa (4.900 m). It is linked to the South African Airways network with daily flights to all major destinations in South Africa departing. Joy flights over the Kalahari and the Orange River can also be booked at the airport.

Two local tour operators offer guided safaris into the Kalahari desert and visit the spectacular Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - also the Botswana part of this huge game reserve..

History Museum
The Kalahari Oranje Museum in Schröder Street is worth a visit. It shows exhibits of the local history at the Orange river and the culture of the Khoikhoi people. The museum is open Mo–Fr from 9–12h and from 14–17h. Tel 0027 (0)54 3326064.

Kalahari Coffee Shop
The Kalahari Dried Fruit & Coffee Shop in Schröder Street sells local products and is a popular place to have a coffee or snack while watching the swans on the gently flowing Orange River.

O'Hagan's Irish Pub + Grill in 20 Schröder Street has real Guinness and excellent food including traditional South African potjiekos. Outside terrace overlooking the Orange River.

Spitskop Nature Reserve
The Spitskop Nature Reserve is a small game reserve, approx 13 km north of Upington. It was named after the "Spitskop", Upington's granite koppie just outside the town. Game species in the reserve include oryx, springbok, red hartebeest, eland and zebra. You can drive through the reserve on well-maintained gravel roads (length 35 km). There are also hiking trails available and an overnight hut.
