South Africa's rural Free State - formerly called the "Oranje Vrystaat" - lies a bit off the main tourist routes. Most travellers only get a glimpse of the South African "Platteland" while driving from Cape Town to Johannesburg on the N1 Freeway. However, if you can spend a bit more time, there are quite a few interesting destinations in the Free State, which will be presented in this menu.

The Northern Cape Province is not so well known either, although, with the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, it includes one of the greatest attractions, South Africa has to offer.

This huge game reserve - a large section lies in Botswana - is quite remote and one must travel long distances from any urban centre to get there. Anyone who loves desert landscapes with their fascinating animal world should not miss this park.
