Colesberg
|
|||||||||
Colesberg is the ideal stop-over place when travelling from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The centre of the town lies a few hundred metres south of the N1, so that no traffic noise can be heard. Distances: approx 680 km to Johannesburg and 790 km to Cape Town. Especially in the old part of town south of the NG Kerk you will find excellent accommodation, including quaint little Karoo townhouses, fully equipped with antique furniture and some of them with a self-catering option. The best restaurants can also be found in the old quarter. The Colesberg-Kemper- Museum in Murray Street is worth a visit, although it is not open on weekends. The curator of the museum is happy to open up for visitors after hours. (She is usually around). Tel/Fax: (051) 753 0678.From a tourist point of view Colesberg is at present still in the development phase. Recommended is a little hike onto the surrounding hills where you will be able to enjoy a wonderful view onto the town and the Karoo. |
