The Overberg lies about two driving hours east of Cape Town. Once this region beyond the Hottentots Mountain was hardly accessible. This only changed when Sir Lowry's Pass was opened in 1830.
The Overberg region boasts many attractions. Besides its stunning beaches, there is e.g. the Bontebok National Park, a game reserve dedicated to the protection of the Bontbok Antelope, amidst the most scenic nature at the Breede River. A popular destination is Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa. But the magnet for visitors is always Hermanus - South Africa's whale-watching capital. Every year in season - August to November - tens of thousands of visitors flog in to watch the Southern Right whales play in the bay.
The Overberg Region offer quite a few romantic hotels, lodges guest houses and farms, geared up for weddings and conferences.
