Travelling Time Winter is the best time to visit this town in the Klein Karoo, because here it gets very hot in summer.  Ostrich Show FarmsBesides the two oldest ostrich farms Highgate and Safari, which are for many years entertaining hundreds of people every day with shows and informations about ostriches, some new show farms have opened now: Buffelsdrift Ostrich Farm and Cango Ostrich Farm. It is difficult to choose between them, since all of them offer good shows of about 90 minutes length, lots of information, a curio shop and a restaurant. Prebooking is usually not required, shows and guided tours take place several times every day. But there are good hotels and guest houses in town which also offers a campground. Particularly beautiful are the guest houses in the Schoemannshoek Tal (en route to the Cango Caves).  Restaurants in OudtshoornOudtshoorn has a variety of good Restaurants, for families as well as for the sophisticated taste bud. Arguably the best gourmet restaurants in the area are Kalinka's Restaurant and Paljas Restaurant. On the menu are traditional karoo dishes with African and European accents. The signature dishes are ostrich, kudu, springbok, beef, quails, lamb and crocodile. Both restaurants be found in Baron van Reede Street.
