National Arts Festival
Every year at the end of June, Grahamstown celebrates the National Arts Festival for eight days. It is a cultural highlight for the whole of South Africa. The visitors can choose between more than 500 performances in opera, cabaret, drama, jazz and folklore. In the centre of town is a gigantic fleamarket with arts&crafts, good food and drink and lots of entertainment.
Museums
Grahamstown is home to some of the most important museums of South Africa. The Albany Museum, founded in 1855, is dedicated to the natural sciences and has a history section as well.

Music lovers will be interested in the International Library of African Music, situated on the campus of Rhodes University. Over 200 traditional African instruments from all over Africa are on display. And it has an audio library with numerous recordings of traditional music, the world's largest collection of this kind.
