Visitors are very welcome on the Humewood Golf Course. The access from Cape Town goes via the N2 to Port Elizabeth. Take the Summerstrand turn-off and proceed to the Marine Drive, then all along the beach up to the Holiday Inn Hotel. The golf course lies behind it.

Humewood Golf Club

Port Elizabeth - South Africa

The Humewood Golf Club in Port Elizabeth was opened in 1931 and is one of the few links courses in South Africa. It belongs to the top ten in the country and hosted the South African Open four times. The course surrounds the impressive double-storey club house, from where one can enjoy the beautiful view of the course itself and Algoa Bay.

Humewood is known to be difficult. The fairways are undulating, the bunkers deep, and the frequent strong winds, often gale force between October and January, top it up.

The club's symbol is the "Kiewietjie", a peewit species. These birds are nesting on the grounds and their nests are marked with red flags. If a ball lands too close to a nest (less than the length of two golf clubs), it may be lifted and dropped without penalty.
