Mudlark River Front Lodge -Malgas / Western Cape

Mudlark River Front Lodge is situated on a 22 hectare property, part of the Lower Breede River Conservancy and nestles on the river bank about 2 kilometers from the tiny villages of Witsand and Infanta both situated on the opposite bank of the river mouth. The Lodge faces north and is protected from the prevailing sea breezes and has magnificent views up and down the estuary. The lodge is surrounded by fynbos on three sides and the river in front. The Mudlark River Front Lodge offers exclusivity to residing guests, with individually decorated private rooms. Our menu is renowned for its excellence using products sourced fresh from the sea, river and surrounding farms.

Accommodation: Mudlark River Front Lodge consists of a central timber lodge containing the entertainment and dining areas. The 5 bedrooms are situated on both sides of the lodge and the communal dining area overlooks the river so it is breakfast with a view. All rooms have beautiful panoramic views of the estuary and the surrounding fynbos, have ensuite bathrooms and are thoughtfully decorated; some with private balconies. All rooms have heaters and fans and separate entrances. There are two twin bedded, two double and one family room.

Facilities: Relaxing lounge with river views and friendly fisherman's bar. Second lounge with DSTV.

Boat charter: One can fish the estuary in one of our dinghies with our experienced skippers, or on the sea with Tim on the Mudlark Charter boat. Tim is a experience skipper and angler. He has represented South Africa in many competitions and has been fishing in the area for 40 years.

Whales and Birds: St Sebastian bay at the mouth of the river has one of the largest concentrations of Southern Right Whales in South Africa. It is known as the whale nursery of South Africa. One can take a relaxing walk and watch these magnificent beast with thier calves from June to November. Infanta has some magnificent viewing spots, and one can appreciate the size, and gracefulness of these magnificent whales. The Mudlark is also known for its bird life and 196 species have been seen in the surrounding area,we are lucky to have the land and estuary birds, one can sit on the viewing deck and watch the birds at their feed trays, or spot the fish eagles hovering over the river.
