Amakhala Game Reserve - Paterson / Eastern Cape

Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture and today has six independently owned lodges. All are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820.

The lodges offer various styles of accommodation, which include one gracious colonial homestead, two classic bush lodges, a historic inn, and a Settler farmhouse. To maintain our hospitality and exclusivity we have limited the number of guests visiting the lodges.

Guided by experienced rangers in open Land Rovers, you can return to nature and explore the diverse wildlife and the rugged landscapes of the Eastern Cape Valley Bushveld. You can spot lion, rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, tortoise and over 16 antelope species. Day safaris commence in the early afternoon with a three hour game drive. After a sunset cruise on the Bushman's River, with cheese and wine, a scrumptious four-course dinner is served under the stars in our specially designed bush lapa during the summer months. The evening concludes with an exciting night drive. In winter guests enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the lodges on the Reserve with their in-house guests, and a night drive back to the lodge where the safari started.
